MASTER CLASSES BY THE PIANIST DANIEL LEVY
Daniel Levy carries out Master-Classes for young musicians at some of the most important international music education centres.
His profound dedication to Music and to the importance of the role of the musician, have led him to become involved in the education of young musicians using cutting-edge methods.
When a musician attends a Master-Class, he has reached an important stage in his musical development. The desire to work for a certain period of time with a highly professional Master of Music means the musician has reached a certain level of ability and awareness which produces in him the need to deepen or specialise a specific repertoire.
Master-Classes are important occasions from various points of view. Meeting with other people interested in the same research is just as gratifying as working with a highly experienced musician, who is able to point out the various possible interpretations within the complex study of music.
The connection with the teacher is always the focal point. The experience gained from it can induce a student, or young professional, to embark upon the right course for his future as an artist.
There are great musicians who do not possess the ability to teach the fundamental elements that form the basis of their particular method of interpreting a specific composer. On the other hand, others possess the marvellous gift of being able to offer that which is essential, with incisive clarity.
It is a well-known fact that the greatest Masters of Music are those who have great humility, efficient communication and who know how to give an impersonal guise to their work. Here, impersonal refers to that rare virtue, which is fundamental in teaching, that does not authoritatively interfere in the particular development of each pupil, but helps each one to bring out his or her own potential and turn it to its best use.
To educate, from “educere”, means to “bring out”. A phrase that is often quoted, but still too rarely put into practice when actually teaching.
When the teacher communicates not only his technical knowledge but also his experiences, human warmth and the correct relationships within his personal life; when he transmits to a young person an awareness that music has always helped people to understand the mysteries of life and that it represents the just means for his development, then we can say that we are in the presence of a Master of Music par excellence. Someone who has understood and who helps others to understand.
In forming a musician, the music teacher has the great responsibility of making a contribution, so that in the future “music” and “life” are understood, to a profound degree, as closely linked entities. Such a teacher will not only tend to the technical abilities needed to perform the music, but he will try to make the young musician understand the importance of a correct balance between his professional and private life.
Both must be perfectly attuned in the servant of Music.
